In most counties in Texas, divorcing couples are required to attend mediation before their case goes to trial. As a result, most family law attorneys are at least somewhat familiar with the mediation process. At mediation, you and your attorney will attempt to negotiate a final settlement of your case with the help of a mediator. Typically at a mediation, you and your attorney will be present in one room and your spouse will be present with his or her attorney in another room. The mediator's job will be to go back and forth between you and your spouse and attempt to negotiate a settlement of your case.

The process may seem simple enough, but it is critical to be prepared for mediation.
