Catherine Kirkland Austin, Texas,
Catherine Kirkland graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with special honors in government, a second major in journalism, and a minor in history. Catherine enrolled at the University of Texas School of Law in 2008. While in law school, Catherine was very active on the school’s mock trial teams. Catherine won several tournaments including the Gardere Intramural Mock Trial Tournament in 2009 and the Haynes & Boone Intramural Mock Trial Tournament in 2010. Additionally, Catherine was an editorial board member of the American Journal of Criminal Law serving as Chief Articles Editor and earlier as a Manuscript Editor. Catherine was also a member of the Board of Advocates throughout her time in law school. During her last year of law school, Catherine spent a semester in London studying comparative law at University College of London Laws and in the spring sat as a pupil member of the Austin Inn of Court. After her first year of law school, Catherine clerked with Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid under a summer litigation fellowship awarded by the State Bar of Texas Litigation Section. During her second year, Catherine worked as a research assistant reviewing changes to regulatory takings laws throughout the United States. Later she clerked for Jones Walker, LLP in Houston and worked in-house for the enterprise litigation group at USAA Financial Services & Insurance in San Antonio. In 2011, Catherine graduated from UT Law and was licensed to practice law in the state of Texas in November 2011. Catherine clerked for Piper & Turner, PLLC during her last semester of law school and joined the firm shortly after the bar exam. Since joining Piper & Turner, Catherine has focused her practice exclusively on complex family law matters. Catherine currently volunteers as a mock trial coach for the undergraduate mock trial team at the University of Texas. |
